Major manned station and junction on the Port Augusta-Hawker Line and the Peterborough-Quorn Line .
Multiple Loops and sidings for station, goods, grain and fuel depot plus loco servicing facilities.
Quorn was originally the junction between the Central Australia Line (Port Augusta to Alice Springs) and the Peterborough-Quorn Line and was a major service and supply centre. In 1950 the Central Australia Line was diverted away from Quorn. In 1956 the line from Port Augusta was closed except for the section between Quorn and Hawker. As a result traffic through Quorn declined significantly.
The Peterborough-Quorn Line closed in 1987/88.
After the closure of the Port Augusta-Hawker Line in 1972, Quorn became the operations centre for the Pichi Richi Railway, a narrow gauge steam preservation railway running along the original line from Quorn to Port Augusta.
